Diversity, Equity,
& Inclusion at Wistia

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) is a big part of who we are. We work hard to make sure everyone is respected, treated equally, and celebrated for who they are. Improving DE&I is an ongoing mission for us, and we’re always looking for ways to make Wistia a more inclusive and equitable workplace.

What we’re doing

In early 2023, we laid out key target results for our People, Commercial, and Product teams to meet our ambitious goals. This shifted our focus from growing our team to supporting an inclusive, high-performance culture that lets everyone thrive and do their best work.

The pillars of our plan

We put DE&I at the heart of everything we do, from how we connect and collaborate with each other to how we build our product. These three pillars are the foundation of our efforts:

Building the Team

We make sure that our team is as diverse as our community at every level, and we have equitable and inclusive hiring practices. We give everyone throughout the company a fair chance to grow, and we welcome and value all perspectives.

Working Together

We approach every task and interaction with an openness to learn and deep respect for our peers. We’ve built up strong anti-racism and anti-bias muscles and systems and we have a Code of Conduct in place to hold our team accountable.

Creating Social Impact

Our product, website, and content are inclusive and accessible. We amplify diverse voices and perspectives. We make a point to be transparent, and we openly share our DE&I and anti‍-‍racism work.

Take a closer look and compare the data

We’re publishing the data to hold ourselves accountable, including only the samples big enough to report on. As we work to change these numbers, this data will be updated to reflect the progress we’ve made.

Our progress

When we put together our 2022 DE&I report, we looked at racial diversity across the company. We found a 14% rise across the company and in leadership positions from 2020 to 2022. As we entered 2023, we focused on improving gender diversity across the organization. Here are the areas where we did well and the areas we need to work on.

On track

We’ve seen positive distribution in our Director+ roles with 53% identifying as either a person of color, a woman or non-binary individual, or both.

On track

Our employee engagement surveys revealed steady, positive results for individuals feeling like they belong at Wistia. A core strength of Wistia is its people, and we’re proud to see Wistians bringing their full selves to work.

Needs work

While each hiring class in 2023 has been as diverse or more diverse than our whole company, we still need to work on the overall distribution of our team.

Ways we support each other

At Wistia, we try to create a culture of inclusivity that embraces intersectionality and encourages allyship. Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are an important part of building and maintaining that culture. ERGs have Slack channels and a budget for group activities so that they can serve as a forum for Wistians of shared identities to connect, share personal and professional experiences, and enable and empower one another.
  • Diverstia

The primary purpose of this group is to encourage a culture of maximum inclusion at Wistia so that all Wistians and visitors feel welcomed and valued, no matter who they are and what background they have. The group’s secondary purpose is to support anyone who’s working to increase diversity at Wistia.
  • Gender Equity Seekers

This is a group for all Wistians seeking a space that centers the experience of women and other equity-seeking genders. It’s focused on casual conversations, building relationships, learning and development, and career growth.

The future

We know there’s a lot more work to be done and we’re excited to be on this journey with you. Success only comes when everyone plays a role in driving change. This work is not the responsibility of one or many; it’s the responsibility of all. We’re committed to trying new things, making positive changes, and learning—all while making sure every Wistian is respected, heard, and celebrated every day.
